Foote et al. (1993) first reported this species in North America from coastal New Hampshire beginning in 1986, and Norrbom et al. (1999) reported it from Maine and Nova Scotia, but we here record that R. meigenii has been collected in Montreal, Quebec in 1956 and 1967, and in Oakville, Ontario in 1977, suggesting a much earlier arrival from Europe.

Hosts: Foote et al. (1993) report that Rhagoletis meigenii breeds in fruits of Berberis vulgaris in Europe. Both the fly and host plant are introduced to North America. The larvae feed in the fruit.
