Characteristics & Similar species
The defining character of Sobarocephala texensis is a relatively weak, ill-defined spot on the scutellum that continues onto the posterior margin of the scutum. Only one other known Sobarocephala (presently undescribed) shares this pattern and it is restricted to the neotropics.

The genitalia are simple and nondescript, as the surstylus is small and rounded and the internal components are generalized and largely unmodified from the hypothetical genus groundplan. This, combined with its overall pale colouration has made it difficult to place Sobarocephala texensis phylogenetically in the overall evolutionary framework of the genus. Its closest relatives in North America appear to be S. setipes, S. lachnosternum and S. dreisbachi, which also have a comb of bristles on the male fifth sternite.
