- Elytra far from reaching apex of abdomen
- In the majority of species, elytra and abdomen together appearing as an apical section, distinctly wider than head and pronotum
- In those few species that are more linear in shape (above left):
- Antennae always clubbed
- Head, pronotum and elytra (at base) with deep pits
- All tarsi with three segments
