Pselaphinae  
 

  • Elytra far from reaching apex of abdomen
  • In the majority of species, elytra and abdomen together appearing as an apical section, distinctly wider than head and pronotum

  • In those few species that are more linear in shape (above left):

    • Antennae always clubbed
    • Head, pronotum and elytra (at base) with deep pits
    • All tarsi with three segments
