Characteristics
Sobarocephala atrifacies
is unique among the North American Clusiidae in having a white scutellum and two pairs of white spots on the scutum, rendering this species easily distinguished from congeners. The white spots or stripes of other nearctic clusiids such as S. flaviseta and most Clusiodes species are restricted to the shoulders.

Other diagnostic features include a pubescent (not plumose) arista, a relatively long face that is sometimes black (hence the specific name), a frons that strongly narrows towards the back of the head, and a closed cell bm. The latter two characters are also found in Sobarocephala flaviseta.

Distribution & Biology
Males are unknown for this species, which is known only from the Dominican Republic and Florida. Specimens have been collected on grapefruit, guava and loquat trees.
